A woman's place is in… watershed development

In this article we describe the participation of women in the watershed programme in India and look at some ways greater opportunities for women's participation are being introduced. While things are changing,we are cautious about painting too over-optimistic a picture of the scope for ensuring equal opportunities, given the constraints placed on the participation of many women because of the cultural, social,
political and economic setting in which they live.
