Water collection from thatch
01.07.1982
Thatch is still the most common roofing material in the world - on the Indian sub-continent for example, census returns indicate that well over 50 percent of the population live under thatch. Thatch, whether grass, palm leaves or some other plant material is most commonly used in rural areas, and it is in these same areas that adequate, planned domestic water supplies are generally lacking. This article describes some traditional ways of collecting water off roofs, particularly thatched roofs, and also suggests some practical, cheap and simple ways of taking advantage of this source of rainwater.
