Here in the UK, innocent newspaper and magazine readers are increasingly bombarded by the views of professional 'columnists'. Engaged for their 'informed' (or should that read reactionary?) views on everything from 'The myth of the greenhouse effect' to 'What's wrong with the youth of today?', these writers frequently have nothing of substance to say, but are happy to be highly paid to go on saying it.
