Financial inclusion and multidimensional poverty reduction through self-help-group-led microfinance: evidence from Bodoland, Assam, India
The aim of the present study is to examine the impact of self-help group–bank linkage-led microfinance programmes on income generation, employment creation, and multidimensional poverty alleviation through financial inclusion in Baksa and Udalguri districts of Bodoland, Assam. The propensity score matching method is used to evaluate the impact of the programme on the mentioned outcome of 330 households including both participants and non-participants. Self-developed financial inclusion and multidimensional poverty indices are used as two outcome indicators for impact assessment. The study concludes that the microfinance programme has increased income, decreased multidimensional poverty, and led to financial inclusion.Alkire, S.
