Financial products for MSEs – the municipal savings and loan banks of Peru
What small business people and microentrepreneurs often find to be lacking in conventional banking services are, among other things, quick and simple procedures, and access to loans for household uses. The municipal savings and loan banks of Peru have products that go a long way to meeting both needs. This article describes the structure of the MSE sector in Peru, and then outlines the financial products of the savings banks that have been designed to meet the needs of this sector. The article then describes the take-up of these services by the target group of MSEs, and suggests that these services can be provided on a cost-covering basis.
