SUPPORT US AND HELP TO OPEN UP ALL OUR JOURNAL CONTENT!
Practical Action publishing puts transformative knowledge into the hands of people who need it most. We are proud to announce that Waterlines, Food Chain and Enterprise Development & Microfinance journals are free for everyone to access from January 2022, through a Support to Open (S2O) model.
We are delighted to be part of this exciting movement across the scholarly publishing landscape towards the opening of content, particularly for authors and readers working in limited-resource contexts. It is also propelled by the increasingly urgent stipulations from institutions, research funders and donors that all outputs from funded research be available open access.
How does the S2O process work?
We will look to our global community of current and new supporters of Waterlines, Food Chain and EDM — institutions, organisations and individuals — to support us for the first time, or to transform your current subscription to a reduced supporter price. This will enable all journal content to be published Open Access, and supporters will benefit from free access to all previous volumes for the last 22 years.

How can you get involved?
Knowledge, innovation and collaboration go hand in hand for bringing about positive change
With Open Access, everyone benefits – especially the change-makers in local communities who need access to relevant solutions to some of the world’s toughest problems. Open Access resources allow us to share what works with others, so many more people can change their worlds. The articles can be translated freely, shared and engaged with even in the most remote corners of the globe.
By supporting the S2O model, and supporting our journal programme, you can offer an opportunity to support researchers and practitioners from lower-resourced contexts or fields, where paying APCs is less (or not at all) feasible.
We hope one of the following options will appeal to you, as together, we share technical expertise and the latest development perspectives with communities around the world!
